Virgo New Moon 2020

Happy New Moon, friends!

The New Moon is often thought of as a time for New Beginnings as it is the first phase in the Moon Cycle. It’s a time when the sun and the moon meet up in the sky from our perspective on earth. The moon is hidden. Like a seed underground, like a sperm meeting and egg, symbolizing the beginning process of gestation. It is a powerful time to set new intentions or re-commit to our path. It’s a time when the ground is fertile and wet, making it the best time to plant seeds in the garden, as well as in our hearts. The new moon is an invitation to start fresh. To use the darkness to visualize and dream.

VIRGO
This Moon is in Virgo so it contains Earth energy that is oriented toward practical and reliable ways to be of service. Energy that is concerned with being orderly, detail oriented, hardworking, selfless, precise, analytical. Or it can manifest as perfectionism, nit-picking, lost in details, skeptical, critical or workaholism.
This tension can balanced by being present, practicing gratitude and being a part of something greater than ourselves

Storytime: Honor and Reflect

Something that has been coming up for me this Virgo season is noticing how my dreams are directly related to my fears. It’s almost like they are just different sides of the same coin.
For example, my desire to be detail oriented so that I can be truly great at something, to excel and give it my all often turns to “perfectionism” or “workaholism” and it activates this deep fear of “Not Being Good Enough”. But it’s this ambitious energy, this passion to do something to the best of my ability that drives me. So it’s a really interesting, energetic dance. And as long as I stay aware and practice self compassion, it can even be fun and insightful!

Another dream/fear combo I am experiencing is this Freedom to express myself and this Fear of “what others will think”. This leads me down the path to PLEASING, which leads me to putting other people’s needs/wants before my own and this leads me to feeling RESENTFUL and just unsatisfied and also feeling neglected. Ultimately, I see this is a form of Self Abandonment, causing major Self Worth Problems.

As I sit back and look at my New Moon List, I am noticing this invitation to step into my Power. An invitation to believe in myself. An opportunity to actively choose FAITH over FEAR. This moon cycle I intend to rest before I quit. I vow to be relentless in my devotion to the Life I have dreamed up. Perseverance is my word.

Love from Above, a poem

A surprise gift,

a calling from the Divine, comes in the form of two little blue lines.
A message that I must raise, nurture and guide not only one, but two young lives.
Like a Summer thunderstorm without warning, waves of emotion roll over me.
The doubts rain down and the light disappears. “I’m scared. I’m not ready. I need more time to prepare. I need more time to save. I need more time to become mentally, spiritually and physically brave.”
Although, I know deep in my soul that my worries will fade with a little self trust and a whole lot of faith.
I can bring the Light back I’ve done it before. I can do it again. To believe in my power is how I will begin.
I look back at the little blue lines, one standing beside the other and smile thinking of River becoming a big brother. The fears begin to settle along with the restless butterflies. Just in time for the quarter moon to rise.
Before I fall asleep and dream of our family of four, I give thanks to the Love from above for giving us new Life once more.

Celebrating 608 days of breastfeeding. 🎉

Celebrating 608 days of breastfeeding. 🎉

It’s been over 48 hours since I’ve last nursed River. WOW. I think we are officially weaned. This special little bonding activity with my son lasted for 608 days. That’s over a year and a half. Every. Single. Day. Since he was born, I have nursed him multiple times throughout the day and night. When he was hungry, when he was scared and when he just wanted to connect with me randomly throughout the day- I dropped everything and held him until he nursed himself content. This was our way.

Let me tell you, I was not prepared for the amount of effort and energy that went into to parenting this way. I thought organic, natural, attachment style parenting was going with the flow and that “going with the flow” meant ease and bliss. Turns out that the flow of my baby is different than my own personal flow. It’s like I’ve been riding class 5 rapids instead of my usual float trip! It’s been a doosey. 🌊 Of course, it hasn’t been all bad. There were some smooth “float moments”, like when I could easily curl up next to him and nurse him back to sleep at 3am instead of getting up to make bottles or the ability to instantly soothe sore gums from teething... but ... mostly it was just me trying to keep calm and adapt to his current.  #motherhood tho, ima right?

Breastfeeding is amazing but also a lot of, well, work and sacrifice. It controlled a lot of my life. I couldn’t let others help with feeding and josh could never do the night time routine because River insisted on the breast. 🤱

Although, the hardest part of my breastfeeding journey was when I was ready to quit. My body was DONE, but my little guy was definitely not. Uh,oh. What’s a momma to do now??? I thought that he would just “grow out of it” before this was even an issue. Nope! Not even close to being done. I had to intervene- which goes against my natural way of letting things unfold on their own time. . . But I’m so glad I did. (This was such a good motherhood lesson of discernment and self care). If you are co-sleeping and struggling with weaning, I’d be happy to tell you how we navigated the waters. Just send me a DM!

So. We are finding new ways to bond now. And I’m over the moon happy that my breasts have time to rest and recoup. Ok, Thanks for reading and making me feel not so alone on this challenging, uncertain, anxiety-ridden, blissful, brutal, trip of mothering. **This post was in no way meant to be braggy or complainy- just sharing in my rejoicing of overcoming a really hard time of my life / chapter of motherhood. I see you breastfeeding mamas. You are so admired. I love you all. 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
